Founded in 2007, Tortilla specialises in high quality burritos, and was recognised in 2013 by Zagat as the best Mexican restaurant in London. Since then, the company has grown across London and beyond, now boasting 27 restaurants around the UK, as well as eight office locations. With more and more sites and a growing number of employees, the company needed a business management system that could keep pace. The finance team also needed increasingly advanced functionality and sophisticated reporting that would give a clearer holistic picture of the business’s health at any given moment

Having used Sage software for several years, Tortilla consulted with Sage ERP specialist and strategic partner Pinnacle. The company then chose to upgrade its capabilities by implementing Sage’s leading business management solution, Sage 200.

Managing a rapidly growing business

In 2015, Tortilla added six new restaurants in the UK – having opened eight in 2014 – while turnover rose by £6m, following £5m of growth the previous year. Over the next two years, Tortilla plans to open a further 20 restaurants, taking the company’s restaurant footprint to almost 50 locations.

Against this backdrop of fast, consistent growth, Tortilla needed an ERP solution which provided clarity above all else. The increasing number of locations meant rapidly rising volumes of information to process for the central finance team, and this growth was only set to accelerate.

The most immediate need was for automated reporting, in order to support regular, indepth analysis of the business’s health. This was a critical factor in sustaining and examining the company’s swift growth plans. Previously, the finance team had also relied on Excel documents for much of its analysis, so the solution also needed to integrate well with Excel, in order to smooth the transition to a new, scalable system.

Rapid reporting and a growing overview

Tortilla’s finance team now uses Sage 200 for both everyday and ad hoc financial processes and reporting. This encompasses profit and loss analysis, credit control, and cashflow management across the entire business, all managed from head office.

Sage’s ERP solution provides the advanced functionality required to fully support Tortilla’s projected growth, with easy-to-use reporting at its core. This provides regular, comprehensive snapshots of the business’s health for the senior management team.

The finance department also uses Fixed Assets for Sage 200, a solution which integrates with Sage 200 to provide a quick and simple way of managing the company’s assets. Fixed Assets now enables Tortilla’s finance department to easily maintain and complete the lifecycle of the company’s assets, including automatic calculations, swift asset creation, and easy viewing of asset depreciation forecasts.
