Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 End of life - protect your infrastructure and applications

Aug 05

With Microsoft withdrawing support for Windows 7, SQL Server 2008/R2 and Windows Server 2008/R2 there are no longer regular security updates. Don't let your infrastructure and applications go unprotected. We're here to help you migrate to current versions for greater security, performance and innovation.

To confirm, these products went into End of Life as follows:

SQL Server 2008 and 2008 R2: 9th July 2019
Windows 7 end of life date: 14th January 2020
Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2: 14th January 2020

This means that Microsoft have stopped releasing updates and patches for the operating system and they won't help or support if you encounter any problems, leaving you open to known and future vulnerabilities regardless if you are using anti-virus software.

Our IT Services team can help and advise on how to get your business compliant and provide you with information about the options available to you to migrate from these products onto a newer supported version.

What happens if I continue to use Windows 7?

You can continue to use Windows 7, but once support ends, your PC will become more vulnerable to security risks. Windows will operate but you will stop receiving security and feature updates.

Can Windows 7 still be activated after 14th January 2020?

Windows 7 can still be installed and activated after support has ended. However, to avoid security risks and viruses, we recommend upgrading.
