Binn Group builds a sustainable business future with Sage 200cloud from Pinnacle

Scotland’s largest independent provider of integrated recycling and waste management services is managing business expansion with a Sage 200cloud solution developed by Sage Business Partner Pinnacle.

A family business for over twenty years, Binn Group now has 2,000 customers and employs over 120 people. With growth came pressure to gain greater control over its rapidly expanding operations. Group Finance Manager Ruth Fraser comments, “Growth is exciting, but it has to be sustainable.”

The Binn Group chose Sage 200 as a powerful business management system that could offer reporting on subsidiary companies and group-wide consolidation. Ruth’s experience of working with Pinnacle on a previous Sage 200 implementation made the Sage Platinum Reseller her preferred partner to manage the major implementation project, “I could be confident that they would make the migration as smooth as possible, with minimal disruption.”

Today, the Sage 200 system generates in-depth information that enables managers to understand what’s happening in the business, and why. One area of the business regularly scrutinised is the income and expenditure on the company’s fleet of over fifty vehicles.

Ruth explains, “I can drill down to analyse the profitability on each individual vehicle –a skip, a RoRo (roll-on/roll-off) or a refuse collection vehicle – and interrogate the data. Is it bringing in the expected return and, if not, what are the numbers telling us?”

Binn group’s corporate mission is to replace landfills with recycling wherever possible. It recycles enough paper to print 60 million newspapers every year. The Pinnacle team advises on technology to support the company in adopting environmentally-friendly working practices and reducing waste in its own working practices.

Ruth says, “We are constantly looking to evolve and Pinnacle helps us to do things better, informing us of complementary products that will eliminate outdated time-wasting manual processes.”

With Pinnacle’s support, Binn Group has implemented electronic document management to minimise paper consumption, web-based authorization of purchase orders so managers can give their approval remotely, and a more streamlined way to validate and update data on Sage.

In addition to helping shape the group’s Sage 200 strategy, Pinnacle also provides day-to-day technical support. Ruth comments, “They respond swiftly and any issues are resolved quickly. I have only good things to say about Pinnacle and their contribution.”
