The Shore Porters Society, one of the world’s oldest transport companies, is building a firm foundation for the future by investing in new business technology. A recent investment in a Sage 200cloud solution from Sage Partner Pinnacle is set to save days of administrative effort each week.
Despite a heritage stretching back to Columbus’s exploration of the Americas, the company never take success for granted. From the Shore Porters Aberdeen office, Richard Henderson, Office Manager and Partner, explains, “As our previous finance and accounting software approached its end of life, the search was on for a new, more user-friendly alternative. We’d heard only good things about Sage software and decided to take a closer look. It’s an industry-standard product and seemed a good fit for our business, with the user-friendliness that was always lacking on our old system.”
Shore Porters chose Pinnacle to manage the implementation. Pinnacle had the expertise to closely integrate Sage with a separate software package specifically designed for handling removals – a top priority for the business. Pinnacle subsequently liaised with the solution provider to ensure the integration went smoothly.
The project went ahead to implement the latest version of Sage 200cloud by business year-end in December, always a very busy period. Richard recalls, “Throughout the design and implementation process, our assigned Pinnacle Sage 200cloud Consultant provided every support to help us meet the deadline. She then came on site in the first week of operation to support us and help us to get up to speed.”
Five people now use the Sage 200cloud-based system for day-to-day finance and accounting functions. Importantly, the system is a ready source of information on profit & loss accounts and management figures for Richard and his fellow partners. “In contrast with our previous complex and cumbersome system, with Sage we now have ready access to live, intuitive financial and management information any time we need it. We can quickly identify where we need to step up our performance or adjust our pricing to generate extra turnover.”
The integration within Sage 200cloud has brought greater efficiencies by removing the need to key in data multiple times. Richard gives a prime example, “The close integration between Sage Payroll and Sage 200cloud means that calculating wages from timesheets – a task that used to take all day – takes only a couple of hours. I predict that over time Sage 200cloud will save us a phenomenal amount of time – whole days every week.”
Richard praises the Pinnacle team for their continued support of Shore Porters users, “They are more than up to the task of getting us where we want to be.”
